STORM KING ARTIST RESIDENCY
Fall 2013
Professor: David Bell
After visiting the Storm King Art Center in New Windsor, NY we were asked to design an eight-person artist residency--housing both living and studio spaces, along with multiple galleries for show. After studying and analyzing the light sculpture Untitled (to Piet Mondrian) by Dan Flavin, a generative process of design was established. From there, study models were created and deconstructed to serve as the basis of form and created the interlocked and rotating “teardrops” shown. The residency boasts a large main gallery in the center of the structure, on both the first and second floors, with living suites flanking it on the second floor and studio areas flanking it on the first floor. Additional exhibition spaces are also located adjacent to the main gallery on the first floor.
